This artwork is an exquisite portrayal of Vairocana Buddha Tibetan Thangka painting. Vairochana Buddha represents the cosmic aspect of Rupa or form and is one of the five Dhyani Buddhas. In the painting, he is depicted with his hands joined at the tips of his thumbs and forefingers, held against his chest in the Dharma chakra Mudra, also known as the "teaching gesture." This Mudra symbolizes the Buddha's first sermon, in which he taught the Four Noble Truths. The Dharma chakra Mudra represents the Buddha's turning of the wheel of Dharma or the teachings of the Buddha. The word "Dharma" means "law," and "Chakra" means "wheel" in Sanskrit. The teachings of the Buddha lead to the cessation of suffering and enlightenment. Vairocana is a celestial Buddha often regarded as the dharmakaya or the embodiment of the historical Gautama Buddha in scriptures such as the Avatamsaka Sutra. In East Asian Buddhism, Vairocana also represents the Buddhist concept of sunyata or emptiness. He is the central figure in Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism's Five Tathagatas and is recognized as a Primordial Buddha. Vairocana embodies the essence of emptiness, and his teachings emphasize understanding the true nature of reality.
